A relatively new collectable type of game is based on disk. The Disks represent soldiers (of various
races / factions) that build up to an army. As usual the disks are sold blind and come in
various rarity rates. Fun part is that the size of the disk is of major
importance in the game. It's actually some kind of 'poor man's warhammer'
(well not really, because in the end these disk are pretty expensive and show
wear pretty fast). The fun part of this game is that the disks 'move' by
flipping them over. As such 'large' disks have two basic difference over 'small'
disks: when they move, they move fast per move and secondly: they cover more
area (can easily attack a number of opponent or (worse) can get attacked by
large number of opponents. Also, they are more vulnerable to long range weapons.
The disks usually contain various characteristics like strength, speed,
etc.

| diskwars
(fantasy theme) : the original disk game. Basic critic: there are few great
combo's that may spoil a game. |
| range wars:
The mechanics in RangeWars are a bit more interesting and varied than in
diskware, and the non-deterministic combat resolution adds to the replayability.
Range Wars is a fast-paced battle game set in the world of Deadlands and
based on the popular Doomtown card game. (based on the 'wild west' theme, 8
factions / outfits). Basic critic: every bloody disk has special abilities. |
| star trek: red alert (is already dead / OOP): with each ship having
a status display). Apparently taken over by WotC. |
| legend of
the
five rings (based on the ninja/samurai theme). Comes with six originally
Clan armies. I don't have this game, but it's claimed that is compatible
with DiskWars. |
| armada (based on space ships /
crew), uses the Startrek mechanics by FFG. Has both ship disks and crew disks.
The crews come in 4 different factions (standard game). Game comes with a
control pannel that helps with / indicates ships status. |
Most of these games come with
various expensions.
